The Mishap of Jonas By Travis Eller

The Mishap of Jonas Poster.jpg

Jonas is a deaf man, kidnapped and raised by Native Americans as a young boy and later "rescued" by the army. He is given the job of communicating with the Natives through sign language, a skill taught to him when he once lived among them. An outcast from society and thought of as "dumb", his skill is the only way he feels accepted into the white man's world. Things quickly take a turn for the worse when Jonas tries to negotiate the release of a white woman hostage. After a tragic outcome he vows to help the woman's family by watching after her young daughter and helping the husband on his land. As if his handicap and isolation from society wasn't enough, Jonas finds himself in the midst of a tragedy that could have been avoided had he not been deaf, an incident not only robbing him of what acceptance he had but also burdening him with tremendous guilt. With no where else to go, Jonas sets out alone.
